To Kill a Fly

To Kill a Fly

A Poem by Sheila Crentsil
"

A poem about the value of insignificant things

"

The way I see it everything matters

I’m a sensitive soul who finds profound meaning

In the simplest of things.

Everything has a meaning and a purpose in the grand design

From the smallest fly to the largest elephant everything matters.

To most, the fly is microscopic, a pest if you will,

For most of my life I was the fly

Swatted at in exasperation by those who should have loved me.

What did I do that was so pesky but want for genuine affection and acceptance?

At times it seemed their sledgehammer of intolerance would crush me

The innocent defenseless fly

Every struggle matters, every story is unique but important

Without the fly or the elephant the world wouldn’t be the same

That’s why you should never use a sledgehammer to kill a fly.
