A Moment of Peace

A Moment of Peace

A Poem by Shelly Braen

Hear the crickets chirp,
Night is on her way,
The sky glows red tonight,
The city lights reflecting on her blanket,
To sit and stare and wonder,
The couples making love tonight,
The lonely man walking around the corner,
The musty smoke of my cigarette cradles me,
For a moment everything makes sense,
But my ashes drop and I lose focus,
I sink into a warm bath,
The scent of lavender in the steam,
And the long curls of my head grow heavy,
I am in bliss,
I hear the sirens wail from outside,
And they panic me for only a moment,
Lost again within the warmth,
My skin grows milky in cleanliness,
And my brow sooths it's worries,
This is the night,
And tonight is tonight.
