Swings

Swings

A Poem by BlueEyes

Didn't they tell you

you're not supposed to play on the swings anymore?

That lifting your legs high to the sky

gives men the opportunity to look under your skirt?

You're too old, Darling

You have breasts

You have a sex

and you have to hide it

So get off that swing

before you give a guy ideas

(you might just regret it)

A young girl--you loved that feeling

when the chain lost the tension

snapping back at the peak

that ecstasy and freedom

sometimes you were afraid it was going to break

and you'd fall

but that swing caught you anyway

When you found that feeling again

with your own fingers

they called it dirty

Filthy little s**t (but you know they do it too)

 "that's what they'll call you

Your first boyfriend only had you on your back

(and he finished far too quickly)

He wouldn't let you fly

and you couldn't go on the swings

He left you after two weeks

it was your fault, they said

you weren't putting out enough

F**k it all and just go to the park

Ride the swing

Ride the wind

Ride your new boyfriend

(make sure he'll give you a push)

and feel that chain snap once more

You're not going to fall, Darling
