Farewell Long Lost Love

Farewell Long Lost Love

A Poem by Shuvam De Biswas
"

this poem encapsulates how timings of proposals can be so deceitful, either they arrive too fast or too late, which never aided in tying the two ends together.

"
do you believe how enraptured you are in love ?
looking beyond the horizon, expecting the dove;
to carry the message of your reflection in the mirror
to arrive before dusk, before the fog makes it all blur ?

one soul, two bodies, conjoined by prenatal destiny
some find what it is, to others remains a mystery.
love drives you crazy indeed, makes you wait and suffer
but when the ring slides down the finger, it was all worth the buffer.

you continue waiting for the dove, eyes set on the horizon,
knitting dreams of your family, nurturing your son.
for in the dove, you do see Cupid's wings fluttering,
racing against time, for glad tidings He's bringing.

the sun retires to his sleep keeping your hope bright,
balancing love and fear right on the brink of twilight.
why are you afraid, my dear ? what makes you afraid ?
oh dear ! you surely wouldn't want your dreams half-bred.

portraying your face amongst the distant constellations,
waiting for the dove are no mere abstractions.
you fuel the light of hope with all your soul;
keeping you joyous and buoyant like the newborn foal.

you still wait for the dove to bring the message of love,
looking at dark sky, sun no more, naked stars all above
and the moon looks lovelier than ever this night
the sky is clear, so serene, but no dove in sight.

the night passes, stars move towards their resting state,
you start losing hope, start questioning your fate.
"the dove was never set aflight, was your love all a hoax ?
for your love seems now an act of flattery, to me it chokes."

the sun shines on the bright horizon, engulfs me in dull grey
"so hard i did love you dear, my love was too futile to repay.
little by little what we built, is in ashes in a moment.
will it ever revive as the phoenix ?" thoughts put me in torment.

cupid shot his arrow, His blindness adulterated his aim,
for the love is lost, who is to be put to blame ?
for it is human to repent, curse and feel sad.
she feels lost, she has her eyes tear-clad.

longed love lost and denied, so are the dreamt family and son
posthumous forgiveness she craves for, she has fell to treason.
you feel sorry for her, so should anyone do
when love plays the criminal, it seems so very untrue.

she no more believed in love, she gave up her hope-
the hope once lit by her soul, is hanging by the rope.
cheated and obligated, she didn't wait another dusk,
she bled into the air like the deer's musk.

little after she departed that dusk, a cardinal did come
it was too red to be one, and the cry of a dove did it hum.
ring the bells in heaven ! the dove has finally come
altho' avian beaks and storms at the sea have had it numb.

the dove conveyed the message of love, tied to it was a ring-
a symbol of unity, a dream of a family and a son it did bring.
but offerance and acceptance wasn't brought together;
the void will be in the lovers' minds forever.

love comes so slow and it goes so fast, the dove is solitary.
Cupid hit the arrow right, but none on the receiving party.
lovers separated by the sea seem to be more separated than ever.
the dove who tried bringing two together, was remembered never.

Author's Note

Shuvam De Biswas
its inspired from my own personal life, how i waited for love to be reciprocated, but was too naive to understand that love needs time. i'm still quite new to poetry. it fascinates me and i'll continue writing poems in the times to come. thank you so much for reading this <3
