Nightmares

Nightmares

A Poem by Sierra Nerys

Tossing, turning

restless nights

swirling colors

tears and fright

darkened corners

silent screams

create the nightmares

the horrid dreams

you wish for nothing

but for them to stop

yet still all you're told

is 'just think happy thoughts'

a maddening twist

on the simplest of things

you awake with a start

while fear waits in the wings

for the sleep to return

and the dark to encroach

while kids run to their parents

sobs caught in their throats.
