Restless

Restless

A Poem by Nicholas Hagenschneider

Sleep eludes me

fear’s infection

coursing, winding

through my veins

leaving me gasping

for breath

holding my eyes open to

see tomorrow’s horrors

forcing me to listen

to the rapid drumming

of my restless heart

Oh my, this is exactly how I've been feeling lately with another bout of nightmares just waiting for darkness and closed eyes.
I love that it starts off suspenseful and grows into something chaotic, like a mushroom cloud.
Well done. ^^

Thank you :)
I felt the emotions coursing through your veins and the restlessness through timeless gains of no peace and serenity.

You are welcome...:).....................
The raw and ripe nerves shine in this poem ! Indeed, you have captured the 'restless heart' rather aptly - the balance of metaphors and imagery is well balanced. Relished your writing ! Cheers

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it :)
I didn’t know this was about insomnia, but that is something that I can really relate to. I’ve felt exactly like what you’ve written here. You’ve done a good job of expressing insomnia with a dose of unsettling anxiety. It's length is ok, but I feel like more could be explored, but perhaps in another writing

Thank you! Much appreciated :)
This reminds me of Edgar A. Poe's "A Tell-Tale Heart" except that instead of hearing the restless heart of another, it's one's own heart that is heard. Truly, a heart that is restless certainly does not allow one to sleep much less function! Great poem!
