Creating the Rose

Creating the Rose

A Poem by Cat
"

Thorns pierce Aphrodite's foot, and blood-red roses spill from her wounds. An aetiology of the rose. Attempted Sapphic verse.

"

Creating the Rose

Gliding goddess golden and fair whose feet are

pointed, poised, and bare, the seducer among

men and gods the same, she whom lovers praise and

blame, Aphrodite.

Flowing across flowers and leaves, the goddess

sees her lover Ares who beckons Love to

walk through trees and suckle from combs of honey

bees. Aphrodite

ambles, frolics, and trots, yet a gasp is heard as her ankle

becomes caught, pierced she falls then shrieks like lyres

when the wound spills scarlet pearls that

blossom by brier.

Author's Note

Cat
The form is based off the Sapphic and Adonic stanzas. I think I was able to pull it off in the first two stanzas but certainly not the last.

I don't know the form either, and it makes it kind of confusing, but this is beautiful :), also, "brier" is spelled "briar"
Great write!
