Soft Breaths

Soft Breaths

A Poem by Sleep Practice

I watch you dance

skin touches

like a warm bath on a cold day

I want to sink in

and never leave

I want to let go and drown in you

time moves forward

you are alone

your head is heavy and your body deflated

the whiff of a familiar perfume

a strong nostalgia

when all of you was alive and when you were living

when you were in a warm embrace

a connection through waves

a connection through grasping hands and heavy breaths

we embrace

stopped only by the barrier of skin

I open my eyes and I am not there

I sleep and I am alone

I awake and you are not there

time slows

it drags and it grates

it watches and it waits

I wait

I reach

for something I know I cant touch

lips brush my hand

soft breaths

a whisper you can almost hear

a shadow in the distance

something familiar

a feeling you cant remember

you reach

for something you know you cant touch

a memory

when you danced

when our skin touched

when you were warm on a cold day

when we were whole

when all of us was alive and living

we reach

and grasp

but we are alone
