That sinking feeling

That sinking feeling

A Poem by SleeplessVolcano

There’s a lawnmower in my mind

I thought it was cutting down

Those overgrown thoughts

But the blade is blunt

The rain is coming

So those throngs of thoughts stay thick

By tomorrow I’ll feel again

How the grass is growing underneath my feet

I used to enjoy

Walking barefoot on grass

But now

It’s just a sinking feeling.

Was my pleasure and you are welcome.
I love this poem. Your metaphors about lawnmower/grass pop with ideas which feel a little off-balance, almost as if demonstrating your message . . . when those parts of life that used to bring joy now feel like a big downer. I don't feel this way personally, but I see many feeling this way as they struggle to figure out how to navigate a world full of tragedy & strife (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

oh man .. simple and short .. deeply emotive .. how thoughts can weed up a lawn .. with dulled blade only get knocked over .. and it rains ... and there they are again .. taller and even more resilient .. the mind and searching it can be a frightening thing ... really like the metaphor sir ... that sinking feeling is no fun place to be ... and sometimes ... just sometimes .. it is so valid .. great to see you back and posting old friend!

Your posted artwork certainly portrays the mood and movement of the sky before a thunderstorm. As I read your poem I thought about those ever growing clouds swirling in your mind, blotting out the sunlight. Over thinking can certainly give you a sinking feeling. You chose a good metaphor here. Nicely composed work. All the best to you.

Thanks Chris. Over-thinking can be a good topic to write about....
