SurrenderA Poem by BeccaA Villanelle
Previous Version This is a previous version of Surrender.
Summer’s pastel attire
Quiver with apprehension
Yielding to her cloak of fire
Facing the inescapable scorch
Drooping, bending, swaying
Summer’s pastel attire
Tints of patchwork bliss Suffocate in earthy hues
Yielding to her cloak of fire
The unbridled merciful swoosh
Signals their timely demise
Summer’s pastel attire
A season topples on cue
Crumbling weedy and lifeless
Yielding to her cloak of fire
Leaving resplendent hillsides
Purple, yellow, orange, and red
Summer’s pastel attire
Yielding to her cloak of fire
