Envy

Envy

A Poem by Paula M. Potter

Envy

It is the disease that infects our souls

A beautiful emerald that draws us into the tangled vines

So busy craving what others have

We do not realize our own demise

As we choke on the want of what our friends have

A phantom being chased

But can never be caught

It thrives and yet is not really there

We clutch the fragments of this ghost

And finally put to bed this specter

Fading like a puff of smoke on the breeze

We will learn the jewel is in us waiting for release

It's a good description, but I think it could use some rewording.
