Dear Girl: The Villanelle

Dear Girl: The Villanelle

A Poem by John Dennis Gillespie

Dear girl, I am at that stage.

The stage that wishes for moments alone.

Girl, don’t be afraid to turn the page.

Dear girl, I am in this cage.

A cage that changes and controls.

My place has no love, no fear, no pain.

Dear girl, I am at that phase.

The phase that changes my friends and foes.

Girl, don’t be afraid to turn the page.

Dear girl, I am in my rage.

A rage that wishes to burn this soul.

My place has no love, no fear, no pain.

Dear girl, I am at that fate.

The fate that takes faith to unfold.

Girl, don’t be afraid to turn the page.

Dear girl, I am at my place.

My place has no sorrow or woes.

My place has no love, no fear, no pain.

Girl, don’t be afraid to turn the page.
