Dear God,

A prayer hoping to be heard.

I know I don't deserve

To pray to you,

Or even speak your name,

But I come to you a shattered shell

Of what I used to be.

I used to be faithful,

Talking to you each and every day,

But the path I once sought

Has come to a crossroad.

I fought so hard to find you,

Praying,

Reading,

Meditating,

Yet each road led me nowhere.

How can I find you!

Out there...somewhere, 

You once said you loved me,

I don't know what to believe.

I know it's not your fault,

My wickedness took over,

And my life turned to ash.

The world so full of hate,

Spewing lies from every mouth,

Each person wears a mask,

And accuses you for their troubles.

I don't blame you,

I just want to understand.

Make me whole again, Lord

I cannot continue on alone.

I rest in your peace,

I pray for your love,

I plead for your forgiveness,

I beg for your mercy.

Its not unsual for people to seek comfort in faith when a love goes wrong or they feel overwhelmed and quite alone..I think this is an exceptional piece.

A very nice and sincere piece of writing (and prayer). However, I don't believe that it is necessary to go so far as to claim that you do not deserve to pray to God? After all, the feelings of repentance seem to be sincere? Even if the protagonist is not intended as yourself, then some of the more extreme and emotional lines still help to make this more readable. Whilst reading, I felt as if I was reading a confession of sins? Or, even a summary of what the writer sees as wicked in this world? The final lines are wonderful, speaking of peace, mercy, forgiveness and love.

This was an amazing open prayer.. it's so true to times it's actually sorta sad. Hope still exists I think if you can still find the heart for words like these even if just in private thoughts. The world can be a harsh place at times.. even harsher in troubled times I can honestly relate to this one. I don't (or can't? wouldn't dream of anyways!) think of a way to make any prayer better.. each is unique to each writer's heart and your's was very moving with hopes for betterment and a high yearning to feel his presence/love. Beautiful.
