Memory

Memory

A Poem by Sel Whiteley

In these dusk fields, umber shares
no reassemblance with shadow,
- though the French label them the same -
only with the oncoming night.
Each house seems jewelled
with a sapphire square of swimming pool.
And I am out of place
as I dream of you again, a memory
narrowing that nightmare of my sleep.
Always in this land, I almost glimpse you,
in the black hair or delicate features
of your maternal roots.

i like this...a picture card trail to what burdens you. what burdens you flashes out in your dreams in which you still deny it. great write!!

after reading it a few more times it struck me that with a little bit of stretching your words and my imagination that this could be about how Mother Nature feels each during dusk. like i said stretching it a bit. anyhow, very nice!

Wow, this is a poem you want to read and read over again. The imagery is incredible and the small scene that you've created floats in the reader's minds long after they have finished reading. Memories are such interesting pieces of a person and I really love exploring them through writing, as you did a great job of here! This is truly outstanding.

The mood is very well translated into the words. Memories can set us off, sometimes, away from our physical presence. Hopefully, they do also bring so many images of past and future blissful moments!

"narrowing that nightmare of my sleep." - a great line!

Your understanding of memory is deep, contrasing it with shadow, dream, maternal roots.

Not what I expected, you weave the unexpected.

I like this poem, a lot. Memories can be painful, but sometimes it chases the nightmares away. I love the way you tell us a story in such a short poem, I love the start of it as well. A very beautiful piece of writing :D
Nice written!
