Remember Us

Remember Us

A Poem by Richard M
"

As we approach ANZAC Day commorations on 25 April, a call to stop and remember those who have fallen, in all theatres of war, to give us a better life. Also Armistice Day. Lest We Forget!

"

Take some time in your today

to bow your heart, time to say

a prayer for us who lie cold,

we who grow not old.

A prayer for us fallen here,

an observance but twice a year.

Remember us the battles fought,

remember us your freedom we bought.

Remember the families of us

  who did not return,

for those whose heart’s cry, a

  longing that forever burns.

Remember us for the life you enjoy,

the sweat the tears and the toil,

take time to remember us today

as you go along your way.

Take some time to recall

  those who are lost,

for the safety and freedom

you live under the Southern Cross.

Remember us we who lie

  fallen here under battle's sky,

a thought for us this solemn day and

don't let our memory just fade away.

Take time to observe and reflect

your futures we fought to protect,

bow your head and respect the hour,

the poppy red, a faded flower.

Remember us as you close your eyes

your tomorrows blessed under sunny skies,

although these times are days unsure,

these things we know, we were here before.

So, as we march and pass you by

remember them and Southern Cross pride,

for we who fought and lived and

whose memories are forever held captive.

I was noticing that you use language that's inclusive, not specific to the military, & this is something I look for, becuz nowadays, police, fire & first responders are just as much on the "front lines" every day in their jobs, since we have at least one (if not more) mass shootings per week, every week for the last few years in the USA. There are no discrete wars now, it's just one big blob of terrorism domestically & abroad, around the world. I am in awe of those who rush into danger to protect others, however this fits into the duties of one's career! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
