THE RAPE OF FAITH

THE RAPE OF FAITH

A Poem by Ankita Dwivedi
"

Do you believe? Because maybe that's what he wants.

"
Like a mocking bird that
feeds on flesh ,
he humms the cathedral tunes
of mortal life .
But relishes immortality ,
he reisdes in it .
Taking advantage .
You rape faith .
You KNOW it's volatile .
TELL ME WHAT'S RIGHT?
Death is born with dawn.
Borders forged on ground ,
with walls that  stand tall.
On stones and pillars
that don't fall.
With rusty but sparkling metal
and iron fences that
carve hearts with your chant.
They call your mistique and
you feel powerful .
TELL ME WHAT'S WRONG ?
Afraid , quivering .
hiding in the clouds,
as i recklessly bleed on ground .
SO , look me once in my eyes.
Blink at the cinders of faith .
Open the coffin , where i bury fear .
And , i will then know
that you are 'woman enough' to be called a man .
And , i will then know
that you are man enough to be called a GOD.

Has the sound of one who was violated by a religious figure who had been previously trusted. The speaker pleads to be told what's right and wrong, but it does no good. Faith is raped, destroyed. The last four lines, though, are mysterious.

One thing about religion, it can be bent to fit every occasion.
The rape of a child, how can that be justified, faith will find a way of explaining it away.
Now, if I saw the perpetrators struck down, fine, sign me up, till then, forget it.

No man could ever be a GOD, but I know many people think they are one lol, I think they call it god-complex. But as for your poem, it was rich with meaning that really spoke to me as all of your poems do. Every time I saw poetry slam on TV it was almost always offensive poetry which really seemed to define poetry. Why write unless you're venting, is what I mean. Wonderful write. tyfs

I especially like the last 6 lines of this.
Maybe he is just laughing at us...maybe he is just moving us around like chess pieces
on a board, involved in a game of blind faith that we cannot win.
wickedly good piece of writing...
I was raised Catholic...I have a bit of a problem now with organized religion.
and this poem far from offended me.
I see truth in this.
