Poem 46: One Hundred Years Since World War One

Poem 46: One Hundred Years Since World War One

A Poem by Spirit Of Poetry

(This is for the soldiers who died in World War One, and the survivors of World War One. Peace be with the souls at rest, and this poem is also made for the 100th anniversary since the end of the first World War).

World War One

Down in the disgusting trenches,

Becoming shell-shocked,

The fear in your eyes,

The ringing in my ears,

Is me, sitting down,

While the rest of my mates fight,

I've just had one big fight against the Germans,

And it has exhausted me to the point of incapability,

The skies are no longer bright,

It has turned from day to night,

No longer, do I feel right.

I don't like this war and I don't know whether it will end,

If I can survive this war before Christmas,

I can actually write my family a letter,

It will make us all feel better,

With a luxurious pot of feather ink,

And while I would be writing it,

I wouldn't be hearing these deafening gunshots,

At least I could have the capability, to think.
