A Plea to the Higher Power

A Plea to the Higher Power

A Poem by Sri05

Skies rain over me

Heavens pour down

I’m losing faith in thee

Give me a sign Oh mercy!

Make me with divinity, bound.

Show me, thine supremacy

End the raging fallacy

Guide those who destroy themselves

In the name of friendship and love

Those who don’t know

The worth of you up above

Show them, thine love unfailing

That the truth isn’t flailing

That hearts are still full of warmth

And love remains omnipotent

That thou wouldn’t let be a dearth

Of benevolence and compassion

Show them, thine victory

For those who think,

They can do wrong and yet be free

For the power of truth evades none

And the next time their eyes they blink

They shall know, wrath of the blinding sun

Show them, show me, and show the world

That its yours, this life, this universe

And that the decision lies, in thine eventual command.

Wrote this in hopeless times, and more. It uplifted me in more ways than one. It's wonderful what writing alone can do to people.

The poem flows with an expectation that there should be such a benevolence in our affairs and perhaps even hints at the possibility. On the other hand it reveals a slow suspicion of something suspicious in the way that benevolence may be delivered. It certainly touches on the right impulses. Nice right.

You are right about that. And there surely is a greater power that guides us even if we aren't aware. Great poem.
