Strangers

Strangers

A Poem by Starling

if I could go back, I wouldn’t know where to go
cause it feels like I’ve never been there at all
how would I find you in those pages
when I can’t recognise my own handwriting anymore?
telling stories from different times
that simply faded
should we ever meet again
you and me - we’re stranger
we’ll pretend we’re still the same
but I’ll see it in your eyes
just a look that asks
if we missed out
sharing thoughts we’d never speak

if I could go back, I wouldn’t know where to go
cause there’s no time or place to the memory of you
once on all these pages, all inside of me
it lingers like dust through empty air
you’re long gone although you never really left
and to think you’ll want to hear
what I have to say
did I get so numb
or blinded by this reverie?
I bite my tongue while you talk of life
how much greener the grass got
how every day’s like summer
but summer’s just a state of mind
and I still live in winter time.
