Driving in Torrance at 9 PM

Driving in Torrance at 9 PM

A Poem by Here's What I Say
"

I wrote this for my English 476 class. I really hope it doesn't suck because I was trying to emulate Philip Levine.

"

I didn’t know
El Camino has a new parking structure
Or that apartment building now has
Rainbow colored lights and
Where’d that 24 Hour Fitness come from?
I flipped off my old Catholic school
As I drove by. Thanks for the memories and
All the broken zippers on my backpacks
Not to mention all of my blessed,
Cruel-mouthed classmates and the uptight teachers.
My car sits in front of the house, and I want to go out.
Myspace, Facebook, Writerscafe, and Youtube take me places that
My car just doesn’t. But it’s 10:30 PM and I miss
Staring at Palos Verdes at night when it looks like part
Of the stars in the sky are compressed to the southern horizon.

I like the nostalgia that you give here along with personal input that gives the reader's brain
something to play with as well. Very funny even when it seems that you're not trying.

I wished it were longer though, but it got it's point across. Good write.....
