Sense of smell

Sense of smell

A Poem by Cory Barrett
"

.

"
It's said aromas trigger our recollections most.
I've never smelled you.
It could be cataclysmic.

Like acres of screaming lillies begging me to forget.
Or hot coals finishing out the air on a great lakes fall night.
Maybe you smell of the crumpled leaves underfoot,
Crisping out their last wide eyes fantasies.
But most,
I hope you smell like the high cheek bones and smirk you wear.
