The Truth and The Lie

The Truth and The Lie

A Poem by Ciera Elizabeth Hoover
"

Overcoming your fears to set yourself free.

"

There’s a point where worry crosses the line into fear.
It’s holding too tightly to what you’re afraid will happen.
When you find yourself stuck, you find yourself breaking free, instead.
You’re letting go of the shelf you’ve tried to cling so desperately to, for fear of falling,
when really, you were afraid of what you’d leave behind if you try to let yourself fly.

This offering describes the kind of anxiety that limits people's lives. It's that ongoing feeling of unease and uncertainty that keeps them from venturing out into uncharted territory with that paralyzing question, "What if?" The poem seems to suggest that an apparent crisis situation can sometimes be the occasion for the release of the irrational fears. My hat's off to anyone who can successfully make such a transition.
