The Unattainable Beauty

The Unattainable Beauty

A Poem by Sunshine Kid

What once was
Beauty
Joy
Elegance
Is now something
Much
Much
Less.
Or is it
Really?
Idealistic children
Go to watch
Then to learn
Thinking
They’ll be
The next
Big
Thing.
An idealistic dream
Turned into
A reality-checked
Nightmare.
They installed in me
Clinks
Bumps
Pops
Snaps
Grinds
Permanently there
Forever
Like a virus
In a vulnerable
Computer
Surfing the
Unexplored
Beauty.
Unrealistic expectations
Of a poor
Girl’s
Body
Scream louder
Than the soft
Piano
Humming gently
Trying
Desperately
To spare the girl’s
Feelings
Of
Despair.
Play a catchy tune
To wipe the tears
She feels
Rolling down
The cheeks they
Say
Are too
Round.
The unattainable beauty
Is all she can
Think of
As she
Looks disgustingly
At her
Curves.
Up
Higher
Work
Harder
Smile
Smile
SMILE!
Or at least
Loose
That
Pound.
