Butterflies

I'm not sure

what it is

or why

there's no way

to explain the feeling

other than to say...

butterflies

Childish

I know

to allow my head

to rest in the clouds

to feel thoughts

spinning

from one day

to the next

So what is it

about him

that has that effect

on me?

Turning

my down to earth thoughts

daydreaming and foolish

an invitation

to paint perfect red hearts

throwing away

all the broken ones

Butterflies

invade my thoughts

poetry

fails me

melancholy

has no place

anger

doesn't know how

Instead

soft loving words

turn my grey pages

perfect white

and every day

I see blue sky

even when it rains

Butterflies

they flutter

on goes the wishing...

that maybe he

feels them too

Maybe he does, and how wonderful a feeling that would be for him to know he made you feel like that. Those butterflies that turn down to earth thoughts into perfect red hearts, may be foolish, but it is a foolish we all know well. Anything that helps us clear out the broken ones has to be good, right?

True, 'anything' is good if it clears out those broken ones - broken ones...be gone! Butterflies may be fleeting, but it's nice to know you are still capable of feeling after so many years of not. :o)

Butterflies represent the soul. Nothing quite like finding a soul mate. I think your poem is great.

Thank you!! Real soul mates are rare, but delightful to find them. I'm not really looking, but if I accidentally found a soul mate one of these days, I'd be hoping maybe they didn't give me butterflies but more a feeling of being home. Butterfly feelings in the past have not proved to be evidence of reality, pity though, it's such wonderful feeling, while it lasts! :o)

This brings me back to my teenage years when I used to wake up and stay in bed for hours before getting up just daydreaming and fantasizing about my male muse. Even before sleeping I could not help but obsess a little. Sometimes not even sleep at all. Very light and sublime poem!

Not being able to put a name to a feeling is very common but then you relate a sight (in this case a butterflies) just to have a name for this feeling is brilliant. I'm so glad it looks easy, but it often it isn't as easy as they end up reading. If only you could see how they start out sometimes! ;o) I write poetry or stories and then come back to them again and again and kind of pick at them until they feel right. Thank you Aaron! I guess most of us have felt that flighty feeling at some point in our lives, even for a short time. Nice while it lasts! The word image was actually an animated gif, I though I'd find out if gifs work on WritersCafe - no, they don't! :o( I posted that on my Tumblr blog and it got twice the likes my poetry did. :oD Perhaps for Tumblr, I should stick to very short pieces - and turn them into animated gifs - haha!!
