Ever-winding staircase

Ever-winding staircase

A Poem by Alys Jackson
"

I feel like I am climbing up this staircase sometimes.

"

Footsteps,

Stepping in rhythm.

Left, Right, Left, Right.

Climbing the Ever-winding staircase.

Echos,

Bouncing off the walls.

Hello? Hello, Ello, Lo.

Climbing the Ever-winding staircase.

Stairs,

Spiralling upwards.

Upwards, Upwards. Higher, Higher.

Climbing the Ever-windind staircase.

Darkness,

Carpeting the stairs.

Blacker than Black. Darker than Dark.

Climbing the Ever-windind staircase.

This piece had an ordered symmetry that I found profoundly satisfying. It seemed to have been constructed with great care.

And the staircase continues, but as it may sometimes fall into shadow the light will shine upon it at some points of the journey.
Well done. The imagery is clear and I like the metaphor of the staircase representing life, thankfully you are climbing up and not down, so hope lives in you still, even through dark days:)
