Body Count

Body Count

A Poem by Alvin L. Kathembe
"

Of impalers and mass graves

"
"She's got a curvy little body
And the cutest little pout
She's got two thousand Facebook friends
And Elizabeth Báthory's body count."

"He's got an easy smile, potent with guile;
See how he puts himself about!
He's got two dozen Tinder matches
And a Genghis Khan body count."

Historians, sit around, counting
The spoils of other people's lives
Michal demands as dowry
The foreskins of the Philistines

Interesting poem. First two verses reflect (for me,) the superficial ways of today, that only serve as a mask, beneath which nothing much about instinct and the human condition has really changed. We still have our impalers and our predators and the reference to Samuel 18:25 in the third stanza is quite inspirational. Better I suppose 100 foreskins than the heads of 600.

Great read T
