short little story

"

There once lived an author no one knew or understood. He lived in a great big house with hundreds of rooms and often had parties with a large guest list. He allowed all to join not only the best of the best but also the worst were welcome too. His house was place of peace and acceptance, with the enormous library as the main respite. It contained thousands of books, all by the author, written in every genre. It brought him the greatest pleasure to see his guest get along and read his work.

One night after a particularly long party the author felt compelled to write the ultimate book. A book that topped all the other books he had ever written. This book would take away the need for all other books. It would provide all one ever craved as well as suit every and all types of people. It would tickle the rich as well as the poor.

Overwhelmed with excitement the author sat down at his desk and began at once to write his magnificent book. Days past, weeks past, months past and then after one year exactly he was finished. The guests who were accustom to having frequent parties had grown impatient with the author and his distraction from them. Their life had grown dull without his books, so when they heard of the ultimate party they all rushed to his house.

Each one came dressed in their finest of clothes. Even the poor had done their part to show how excited they were to be back for a visit. Once inside the Author revealed his book. They all looked at in wonder. One guest inquired, “How are we all to read it at once? There is only one book.”

For a moment the author looked sad, but then offered to read it allowed. They all looked at each other and began to discuss for they never had spent much time with the author himself, but decided they had yet to be disappointed and agreed to his suggestion. Into the library they went and the author sat down in his chair. He opened the book and began to read.

One by one he captured their attention. The story was of a perfect place that they all wish to be as they let their minds drift off into this new land and they began to disappear. The authors nose was in the book and the others were so enthralled they didn’t notice. Slowly one by one just as the book began to capture their attention it now began to actually capture the guests. The author read all night and into the follow day without stopping until he reached the last page.

That is when he glanced up for a moment to see their faces, but the room was empty. His eyebrows wrinkled and his mind was perplexed. He hadn’t heard anyone leave. He was so captured himself he didn’t think that his guests might not be enjoying his book?

“I have written thousands of books, I consider this my best one, how could not one person like it?”

He pursed his lips and let out a humph and returned to the last page of his book. “Pity the ending is my favorite.” He said as he continued to read aloud. With a smile on his face, proud of himself, he read the last sentence. Then before he closed the book said, “ The...”

A superior scribble Tabbie. Your story drew me in immediately and held my attention til your clever ending. It was almost as if your story and the book were one. Very well written and you make it seem effortless.
I'm glad I stumbled over this.
Cheers,
Alan

This is quite a clever write. The book was so good that the listeners dissolved into the story. Now, that had to be very interesting. You've made a few small errors, using "past" instead of "passed", "allowed" instead of "aloud", and "humph" instead of "harrumph".

“The beginning...” I might suggest, for the listeners wanting a new journey, a glimpse into something not fictional but imagined... and maybe for the author, too.

A gifted writer you are, Tabby Mac. I look forward to reading more of your work.

I like it!! Thank you!! I’m grateful for you! Tabby
Interesting concept for an author's story lines his audience clears the room and the author is left alone to finish his works a published masterpiece where everyone reads to the final page but forgets the most important part the conclusion and the final facts.

Does to me too!
Tabby Mac,
Jesus Christ the Messiah, walked, lived, freed and healed people during a time of the first century in Gallelee when Israel was an occupied and terrorized people. I do not think we really understand, (including me just how amazing it must have been.) Josephus and others write of that time period. Your above writing speaks to me of a mighty Creator God presenting the reality of His love for us and showing His power on this earth as a human, as a man. The downcast and the ones not thought worthy were His main target and anyone who recognized they had a barren and dead heart. The greatest story ever told.
Wonderful.
