My mask

So for this one the title serves as the opening line... Enjoy :)

Hides my fears…

The ones no one knows exist

Knows my secrets...

The ones capable of destroying even the strongest bonds

My mask

Hides my pain… 

So I need not try to

My mask

Confronts the world… 

So I don’t have to

Lies to others... 

so I don’t have to

Smiles at others... 

so I don’t have to

No one knows what lurks underneath the porcelain covering

It’s grafted onto my skin… 

embedded into my DNA...

Even I have forgotten

My mask…

What would I do without it?

...

   Who would I be without it?

I don't know why, but the mental disorder "PTSD" sort of came to mind while reading this. I always see those types of people trying to hide the demons that torment them through a mask that tells a constant lie. Their fears are buried so deep that all that remains is the facade. The mask becomes one's identity, reality. It's a weird way to look at it, but those were my thoughts in this poem. Great job!

Thank you for stopping by Sapientiam. I never thought about it that way but you're absolutely right unfortunately. This is especially true for soldiers in the military and what not. The cost of war... One would think it would be far too steep for countries to want to pay.
