Pretend

Pretend

A Poem by T. Edana Talbott

If I could pretend not to care,
If I could pretend you don’t make me rip out my hair,
I would.

If I could pretend to hate your face,
If I could pretend to not love the words you say,
I would.

All I can do is pretend,
To me you mean nothing.
Yet, I still feel something,
But I pretend that it’s nothing.

I can’t help the way I feel,
I can’t help my urge to kill,
All these feelings inside,
Your face floating through my mind..

All I can do is pretend,
To me you mean nothing.
Yet, I still feel something,
But I pretend that it’s nothing.

But all I can do is pretend…
And act like I don’t feel anything.

All I can do is...(lie to myself.)

All I can do is….(block out your image.)

All I can do is…(fake my happiness.)

All I can do is…(ache for your kisses.)

All I can do is…

Pretend.

Though, it's a gorgeously rendered piece of heartfelt emotion, Edena (love the name, BTW), I can use my imagination for far better things to "pretend" about. ; )

Still, this is not a poem about me, eh(?), but one of loneliness, unrequited or wayward love and yearning, with an ache nearly beyond enduring … this, I know of all too well.

Sometimes, when one hears/reads the tender voice and heart of a lady in despair, a man's chivalrous side is inspired; yet, it is but a poem, after-all, eh(?) … or, shall I just pretend it is? It feels so real, as excellent poetry should!

I've heard it said there is a certain beauty in sadness, and this piece stands as proof … thank you, Edena! ⁓ Richard

Thank you so much!
One word "pretend" you used so nicely. But better you tend him to fall him in love with you rather just pretend. Excellent piece of art!
