But I'm Happy Because...

But I'm Happy Because...

A Poem by T. Edana Talbott

Observing as you sew me up, stitch after precise stitch,

Cleaning up the wounds from which he left,

And I smile with crooked teeth,

I smile, and you smile at me.

Poking at the toes of my feet,

I proclaim that kind of affection,

Is not for me,

And you laugh and assure me you understand,

So then you reach for my hands…

Like a doll that bends for you, I’m pulled into your lap,

I’ve never felt a moment, where I wasn’t kind of sad,

But I never felt such things with you,

I never really knew…

That happiness was a thing that grew,

From second to minute, in just a sweet few,

I love you, I love you, I love you,

Your eyes so oceanic,

Your smile so ecstatic,

Your hair fluttering like magic;

How I used to be so tragic,

Now I just grin like a fool,

You must think me silly,

But I just think you’re too cool.
