He's the One!

We were new to each other

Like so many looking for love

 

We uncovered so many mutual likes

And that was exciting

 

At first, I didn't know

He is what I've been looking for

As we grew closer, we found much comfort

In each other

We looked forward to each other’s company

And phone calls

 

I wanted to share the burden

He had always taken upon himself

 

We shared without judgement

Our thoughts and ideas

 

We planned to do fun things

Like travel and wander through new places

 

We were planning our future…..

And then we weren’t

 

I knew he was the one,

And then he wasn’t

Ouch, it happens and sadly all too often .. the words here ring true & I get the distinct impression they are autobiographical .. Sadly, I enjoyed them, but then I have a thing about poetry ... I hope to read more of your ink and maybe, I hope some with happy endings ................... Neville :)

Sometimes things just happen, and then we need to practice ourselves not to dwell in the asking of whys because it will consume us. if there is a lesson to be learnt then let it be, if there is no lesson to be learnt, we then also need to learn how to let it be and let it go. not easy at many times. I hope this is an old experience and that You found your one now sharing happiness with him :>

Thank you for your comments! I did look for the lesson and wonder why he was brought into my life. No answer. Sorry to say it is a very recent experience and I'm still asking questions. My process of letting go to move on to a better future.

This relationship appeared to be going places, full of promise, then suddenly it changed. From planning a future to no future. We, the readers are left wondering what the turning point was and just how much damage was inflicted.

Sometimes things which look too good to be true are.

Chris, It was going places! Finally, after many years there was someone who seemed perfect for me. I am still trying to figure out what the turning point was. One day all is wonderful and, the next day it isn't.

You will find that you are likely to get different interpretations. That's the beauty of poetry, it is subjective. Once it is published it is in the hands of the reader :)

The last two couplets bring us up short after reading about something that looked perfect. But that's the way it is sometimes. Not a tragedy, just a direction sign.

Hello John, thank you for reviewing my poem. The way the poem reads is how it was.....it did come up short. I just think it's God's way of telling me he has someone better for me.
