WATCHING.

WATCHING.

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

A WOMAN SLEEPS AND IS DROWNING.

"

She’s enveloped
Between two sheets,
Engrossed in her

Deep sleep and you

Watch her, taking
In her shallow

Breathing, the rise

And fall of her
Beautiful breasts,

The way her head

Sinks into the
Soft pink pillows,

The way her hair

Flows out like a
Rough sea, her arms

Tucked between thighs,

Her hands out of
Sight like small chicks

In a warm nest.

You stand and watch,
Not wanting to

Wake, desiring

To kiss, to touch
Before it’s too

Late and you’re both

Too old and the
Eyes don’t see so

Good and the ears

Close down and you
Both paddle out

To the dark depths

And slowly drown.
