Light of Darkness

Light of Darkness

A Poem by Creepy Swine Guy
"

Enlightenment often comes when we least expect it.

"

Daylight keeps us in the dark.

Only in the darkness of night

Do the stars make themselves known.

Only in this “darkness” do we ever

Contemplate the vastness of the

Universe in which we live.

By day, we are blinded by the light, and

Do not see the sextillions of other suns.

We see no others. There is only us.

By day we are sole inhabitants

Of maximum import. But by night,

We look up and realize that we are but

A single grain on an immense beach.

We embrace our insignificance.

With the darkness … comes enlightenment.

Within darkness is the awakening of insight and of the depth to our souls. We fear it in the light because of the vastness which we might see, but in the darkness we can see only so much before we realize the inevitability of being overwhelmed.

nice work!

This is a most excellent poem.
Not at all what one would expect from swine.
But then again, I'm pretending to be an ancient Medicine Man...
What a Great Universe!
Oom gah wa wa, oom ga wa wa..... HAy! Ay! Ya!

I loved this line...we would automatically assume the opposite, but you stated your case brilliantly...

we must have darkness and light to be complete, it is the way we are intended to be
this is a great thinking piece, giving me something to ponder, which I love to do. I do love the stars and am especially fond of the moon. Night time is for reflection. you did a wonderful job with this piece.

This is really beautiful and so true. I love the night for this reason, I think, but never thought to put it into words. Very nice!

This is breathtaking.
I can relate so well to this, as I'm an avid stargazer.
You really describe the flaw of human existence. That we can only appreciate that we are so insignificant when we see evidence of the vastness of the universe.

I love this so much. It's going in my favorites.

Totally. There is nothing I like more than feeling like an ant gazing into the vastness. It's the only time I really make sense. You express it all so beautifully here.

This is a thought-provoking piece. You set the contrasts up well and the title suits it perfectly.
There are some repetitions which distract a bit and could be cleaned up.
First stanza, line 2 and 4 feel repetitive with the "only in the darkness" repeated. Second stanza, lines 2 and 3 feel repetitious as well.
I like the ideas in this and feel you could clean it up just slightly and have a tighter piece overall.
