Villanelle

Villanelle

A Poem by TheBumblebee

The most courteous crook one could claim to see

Maraudor of the night roads by art

Now hangs with the crows upon a dead tree

Heisted hearts and gold both for his fee

A romantic trapped in a villainous part

The most courteous crook one could claim to see

The man whose eyes by starlight would see

Fortune on wheels, chased from finish ‘till start

Now hangs with the crows upon a dead tree

Rumours which halted all carriage ennui

Danced by the roadside in a red coat smart

The most courteous crook one could claim to see

The one soul they deemed forever free

The same for which all hope departs

Now hangs with the crows upon a dead tree

Look to thy heart if female be

To thy purse if male thou art

The most courteous crook one could claim to see

Now hangs with the crows upon a dead tree

I'd love to hear feedback on this one, so please tell me what you think! We studied villanelles in class last year but i never handed this one in. This poem is about Claude Duval (or however his name is spelt) a highwayman that was everything Mr Turpin wasn't.

I've always enjoyed the Villanelle... And this one's decent. :)

About
I spend more time reading and less time sleeping, hardly surprising for a bookworm really. I'm a manic Shelley fan, with Lord Byron and Mr Keats following in close pursuit. Also a fan of Sade, Plato, .. more..
