I knew better

I knew better

A Poem by Diamond Dunbar

I knew better than to open up to you.
I knew better than to like you to.
I knew better than to want you.
I knew better and I still do.
I got lost in your eyes.
I got butterflies from your smile.
I listened to you even when you didn’t even talk.
I reached out my arms knowing I can’t have you.
I knew better but I didn’t do better.
I didn’t choose better cause I was ready to choose you.
Which I learned was the wrong thing to do.
It’s my time to be the chosen one, now what are you going to do?
I knew better than to un-bottle myself to you.
Yet with my top off I wait for you to take a sip of my love and be intoxicated for the rest of your life.
