Change the World

Change the World

A Poem by Mark Daniels

It's a global world war outside my house these days.

politicians deciding how the Earth's going to die,

what way do we have to protest, I detest the violence,

with my open-hand plea

but the world refuses to see little individuals like me

just because of the way we want the world to be:

peaceful, green, and full of joy

meanwhile the militatry's taking

our boys to war most of the world is bored

so war, the killing of thousands for what? power.

That, when given time, corrupts and devours people

who were strong, now they pit "wrong" vs. "right"

in the name of their god, and I doubt he exists

as the moderator, operator? give me the U.N.

I'm going out on a limb to say what scientists always sim-

ulate hate spreading over the world

before too many get caught in the cold curl of Death's grip.

I just want to be free, we all do, why can't you see?

you're killing us, your people,

when we're gone there ain't gonna be no sequel

So i'll fight to the end, no amount of force will

make me bend to your will im no pawn,

but a man with just enough brawn to survive this

post-apocolyptic hell.

Why does it have to be this way? All we want is peace.

I just want to change the world...

A lot of frustration in this. And deservedly so. I think you speak for a lot of people with this poem.

By the way... I grew up in 44057.

Well Sean, the only thing i have to say about your review is this: dude, it's 2012 and heading for 2013. people have been writing for an extremely long time. by now, i like to think that there really isn't much out there that hasn't been written about.

I think that Change is the only constant in the universe. Not bad, but seems a bit trite to me. It almost feels forced. Kierkegaard said that a poem is never finished, only abandoned. I think you have a good start. I look forward to reading more.

Well, you cange a little bit of the world, in a little bit of time.
Actually, I think there will be a sequel to mankind. No species was meant to last forever, and that includes humans. Who knows what willl come after us? But I'd hate to think that war would be the means of ending us.
