Preterition is quite similar to the concept disinheritance of compulsory heirs. The divine creator could easily deprive us of everything but He opted to extend His grace.

I agree Gab, thank you for digging deeper on this piece. Imagine two in love couple or your parent birth you into this world then decide later that you aren't worth their time, care, love and attention and decided to leave you alone and abandon you while you are a baby. I am emphasizing the negative and illogical side of the doctrine of Calvinism in this piece concocted by John Calvin. Your second sentence captured the idea of what I was trying to point out. We cannot overemphasize the sovereign will of God at the expense of His great and unfathomable love over the crowning glory of His creation ( man ) ... Hence John Calvin is painting and (those who followed his extended and elaborated version of Scripture is) embracing a different Jesus.
