(The Parlour) Family

(The Parlour) Family

A Poem by John Holmes

We are a family

Of different creeds and colours

We are a family of nations, so far spread

The Sun never sets on our smiles.

For we are a family of magic and mayhem

We are the ones who dance in the solstice

We are the ones who go bump in the night

We are the ones where magic follows us in our footsteps.

We are a family of sorcerers and mages, warlocks and seer’s

And High Priestess’s too.

We stand, together, a family of shards and precious stones

ruby and sapphire, green and golden glass are we,

A family of shards

Too beautiful for their home works

Do surely make the most beautiful Mosaic.

A mosaic of such beauty, we could never stand in some window

Nor in the sunlight

For we are creatures of the night, we are of the Moonlight

And the Starlight

So often seen as distant and cold

Are our home forevermore.

For we know the truth

Our family of Creeds, nations and Colours.

The Night is filled with warmth

And light

For our family fills the night

And makes it our own.

I ve added the poem to my favorites already! The musical quality of the poem really binds the words together. I like the fact that you kept them in stanzas, as each stanza presents a different mood, yet the same theme. The word choice goes well. It sounds like a joyful, happy poem, even though you slip in elements of deepest, darkest magic. The mosaic reference really hits home and goes well with the theme. Although, I noticed a little typo there. Did you mean "priestesses"?
