Negro

Negro

A Poem by Alexa Aiden

You've built us up like this

Ugly human, shameful n****r

Stumble on shackles and guns

The cotton gets higher and higher

Bloody hands

thorns cut already broken skin

these hands know this feeling well

days trace on and the sun smacks me down

i'm all worn out

singing the same ol' song

'oh lord, oh lord I plead to thee

strike these shackles that burden me

fill these hearts with love that despise me

or spare me with death that frees me

one day, we shall smile again

far from this house that's broken

on this road that carries me

oh lord, oh lord I plead to thee'

Powerful...you cut through all the "crap" and get down to the nitty-gritty with this one. Strong imagery and strong words...but it works! You strength shines through this one...idealistic and introspective.

You wrote a powerful poem. I could feel the misery and sadness in your words. Many had suffer for us to have a better world. The old ones still have the scars and pain of being treated badly. I like the ending. A excellent poem.
