BETTER

BETTER

A Poem by DIVYA
"

Just a few thoughts for 2019

"
Better the home under a gravestone
than a minaret, swaying in the sand

Better a long, enduring draught
than open floodgates to cataclysm

Better lips sealed in derision
than lips sweetly opening to devour

Better a cold, hard and loveless bed
than one beckoning just for lust

Better a touch as wax, lifeless on the skin
than a touch that ignites and kills

Better the carping, critical voice of truth
than the creamy, crafty voice of deceit

Better a past resting slyly in the clouds
than an ever tossing, ever groaning present

Better a battle-hardened old twosome
than an unctuous, slimy new threesome

Better a queen, lone in her domain
than a tart, nursing a jaded heart of pain

Hello DIVYA, good to see you posting again. I have missed you and hope you are well and enjoying the seasons festivities. Your poem is so creative and I have to say while reading through, both first and second time, that old expression "Better the devil you know" kept flitting in and out of my mind. Your work always so beautifully crafted. Hope the New Year brings you much happiness dear poet.

Happy New Year to you and my friends over there!
Fantastic piece - makes me want to study Solomon's wisdom all over again :) If the world would only absorb a fraction of that wisdom, it would be a better place, but alas, wisdom - true wisdom - has no worth in today's culture.

Thank you for weaving your own nuggets of gold.

Welcome back and Happy New Year to you dear DIVYA! You are looking so lovely as always. I sense such sadness in your eloquent and beautifully written couplets here. I feel that a relationship has burned you and that is tragic. Like Icarus, sometimes we fly too close to the sun. Thankfully the sea is waiting to catch and cool us if we are lucky. Better to have loved....? Yes, but such a hard way to learn!! Wishing you blessings, healing and peace...and love!...in 2019.
