HYPOCRITES

HYPOCRITES

A Poem by DIVYA
"

Here, there & everywhere 😼

"
Can you hearken, in things said
the things left unsaid
Can you feel rancour, breathing
In things left for dead

Can you hear the faintest ‘no’
in the most resounding ‘yes’
Can you trace truth’s skinny bones
In the mammoth lies they dress

Can you feel the steel in
the feigned softness of their charm
Can you sense the chaos lurking
in their touted world of calm

Can you touch the nettles
in the tendrils of their smiles
Can you pick up their petty peeves
from a countless uppity miles

From a swarm of bristly bugs
can you surface with no bites
Can you sift a stray needle
from a swelling stack of hypocrites

I believe what we didn't say, haunt us more than what we didn't. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

A strong write DIVYA and because we are currently in the throes of a general election here in the UK, my attention is drawn to the hypocrites of politicians who never cease to amaze me. The do as I say brigade and not as I do. The ones who will ban private education for the children of others while sending their own to private schools. The ones who educate us about green issues while taking frequent flights all over the world, who also drive huge petrol guzzling cars. Need I go on? I am sure you catch my drift. Some excellent lines in this accomplished write. Well done dear poet.

This is the best depiction of hypocrisy that I've ever read! This is the ultimate in using imagery & metaphor to suggest everything you have to say in a nuanced way, instead of a rancid rant. I wish I could be so creative & clever when I'm in the midst of disgust . . . and there's a ton of disgust going around for the hypocrisies so entrenched in everything it seems, these days! Perfect balance between showing your disgust along with your playful mirth (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Wow! You have eloquently and quite effectively called out two-faced and even three-faced hypocrites in your artful words and images dear DIVYA. Beautiful flow, language, cadence, rhyme- and well-deserved metaphoric arrows hurled so gracefully. Great style of questioning lines in your verses- “Can you..touch..feel..sense..hear..pick up..sift?”- the veiled barbs, the “nettles” and the “mammoth lies”? There are so many toxic people in our lives that fit your powerfully dam*ning description. I hope you are staying far clear of anyone like this, my friend. You have superbly described their poison!

Deception is the trademark of many, often smiling devils, helping hand extended, dagger concealed in the other. You perfectly captured the hypocrite in this poem. Brilliant work.

Well I love the title choice and you didn't go astray from it. Your tone is soft.
The content is actually based on hypocrites.

Thank you for appreciating my words here Jacob. It means a lot.
Too many people are hypocritical. They say one thing and do quite another. If you realize with whom you are dealing, you are ahead of the game. Unfortunately, it will always be this way in our world. Divya, good rhyming in this one and you certainly got your point across. Lydi**

Indeed they are everywhere! The next one always more hypocritical than the last.

Personally, there is nothing worse than being in the company of people who have a certain viewpoint, defend that viewpoint strongly and then when the situation suits them act in ways that are in direct opposition to what they are supposed to stand for. I have seen them many times in my life, both in reality and online, and i have found them to be close to the lowest class of human. We all should have our opinions, beliefs and morals and stick by them at all times. Both in words and actions. That shows true integrity and strength of character. Unfortunately it is a world of hypocrites and they are thriving in numbers. Its always best to avoid them. For the weak of mind and character will always be found out in the end.

This is a very relevant theme and one you have tackled in a nicely structured and well worded poem. Beware of the hypocrites, for just like those bugs, you never know just when they will bite.

I enjoyed this poem. Both for theme and content. Well written, poetess. 🌷🌷
