LOVE IS

LOVE IS

A Poem by DIVYA
"

Define it...

"

Love is

A silent tear dried on a lash

A dying ember forging its dreams

in a bed of cold, unforgiving ash

Love is

A bubble on dry, abrasive sand

A canvas left bleeding in the rain

A kite in the wind, fluttering for a strand

Love is

A sentence given for nary a fault

A burning lamp set upon the sea

Snuffed by a sharp spray of salt

Love is

The ebb of a fast retreating tide

A flower of maverick passion

Blooming in haste, it seldom abides

Quite a melancholic refrain on a usually joyful theme, poetess....

This one has lovely layers of imagery to illustrate the downside of love, with the repetition of 'Love Is' giving the poem a very solemn tone. There is a sadness in your words as they slowly drip down the page. Flames snuffed out, bubbles bursting on coarse sands, flowers blooming in reckless haste....just a few of the many images that are appreciated by this reader. Love Is also wonderful when it is discovered by the Columbus in our hearts. Something to never forget.

A lovely poem, petal. Simple, eloquent in a gentle flow of melancholic verse.
Beautiful work.

Exquisitely worded and profoundly sad.
Those who learn that all love is self-love are rarely so disappointed.
Still, you have created great beauty, here.

A four-letter word of convenience. I've said it before and I'll say it again. People's love for you, if you could call it that, are based on how THEY feel about you, not on any merit you may or may not have. We don't love anyone so much as we attach ourselves, or you do, to others and use them for our own ends. We all do it. Even me. I just admit it.

I agree with you D. People love us for what they think they see in us and not how we really are. Peo.. read more
Pretty deep. This one sends me to the depths of my mind. I like the various ways you describe love because it tells a person about different points in their life that they experienced it or not and what it means to them. For me, love is cherishing someone in times of peace and struggle while moving towards a better future. :)

Love is what not. Tell me love is a mountain or a river sprouting out from that mountain bottom. Tell me love is a winter Marigold and I'd believe you. This poem is a beautiful.

You're welcome, DIVYA
Love is hope, our first and last chance for fulfillment. You convey so well here the fragility and fleeting nature of love, and why it’s worth the pain and tears. Another fine poem.

A bit of bittersweetness here. Do you really believe the flame of love is always doused? I don't think so....I've been married to the same man for nearly 44 years. The imagery in each stanza is superb, Divya. I enjoyed reading this one. Lydi**

Each verse leaves a sting, perhaps as each love did. A very melancholic description of love, but also universally related. I like your symbolism and the imagery it creates.

Many have tried to define love, such a fleeting, fluid concept. Your definition rings very sad. Nice one.

Wow, this is great! Really impressive work. "Love is/ A silent tear dried on a lash" You had a few very expressive lines in there. Continue that great work!
