FATHER...

FATHER...

A Poem by DIVYA
"

A death...A dusk...

"

As you slipped from the zenith

A world in me did fill with despair

A distant and cold, predatory sea

Snuffed out your splendid, regal flare

Trepidation lurked in the shadows of dusk

As the muezzin chanted evening prayers

I looked all around for you

But found you were no longer there

And though I’m a sturdy vessel

Baked in your enduring glare

A disquieting chill still grips my soul

Your loss, a stab of icicled air

As lesser lights, we basked in your glory once

Breaking off from you to find our course

Yet now I linger sadly, a forlorn flame

Of which you were once the abiding source

On us you shone as the sun

And this eventide will soon turn into night

Yet I’ll find no lamp to replace

Your blessed, worthy light

DIVYA,
this is so sad...I remember a couple years ago when my dad passed...he was almost 98 and had deteriorated from what he once was...which was the rock of the family...the one who was always the strongest and wisest...i will never find a lamp to replace his bright wattage...
this has beautiful metaphor and imagery...i have missed your writing!

Your father left the world when the muezzine chanted evening prayers.I think all evening azaan remind you about your beloved father and may be you say your prayer then and seek eternal happiness for him to the Almighty. That evening hours may be a meeting time for you and your father which may give you a state of bliss.
Dear Divya,I fully agree with you that there is no lamp to replace the light of a father.I pray for the eternal peace and happiness of your blessed and beloved father.
I also congratulate you for your strong poetic ability.

I'll be looking forward to your latest poetry sir.
Beautifully written. Each line expresses a sadness which is bound to be there in such a situation and what better a poem could be if it expresses itself correctly. This poem reminds me of my grandmother. People often say that life never stops, it's true but the fact that no one can replace anyone's place in our lives is also equally true and this poem here is the best expression for it. Wonderfully crafted dear friend.

You're welcome and it's my pleasure to read such good work :)
You were blessed to know and love and receive love from your father. My father committed suicide when I was four; and since I have no memories of him, I hold nothing but a few old photographs of him. Where you had a lamp, a light source, I had darkness. Still, our loss is profound and affects us to this day and will until the day we die. I think a father's loss is particularly a powerful blow to a daughter. The father-daughter relationship is so integral to who we become as women that the loss seems to leave a void. "Yet, I'll find no lamp to replace your blessed, worthy light." I feel these words at heart. I know we are supposed to look to our heavenly father in times such as these; and while I believe, it's just not the same.

I'm sorry for your loss. This is a beautiful homage and testament to your father's life and his legacy - you.

Thank you so much for your kind, compassionate and heartfelt words Bunny. I appreciate very much.
well done.... word choices mix the picture of an earthly or Heavenly, Father who stood the course with a contrasting cold icicle piercing of the loss :(
when our Mothers and Fathers are gone from the world ... our chances are gone also .. to write, call and visit ... tell them how we feel ... your tribute moves me in gratitude for me own Ma and Da ... how i do miss them ... very emotive and relatable poem Divya ..thanks for sharing

Very welcome Divya
This is a lovely tribute to your father... expressing the feeling of loss for his strength and example. I loved the atmosphere captured by the chant of the muezzin at evening prayers and the coming of night. But he will always shine in your heart, for sure.

A beautiful and bittersweet poem....

In lovely flowing rhyme and meter, you have poured your heart and soul into this write, leaving the reader in no doubt as to what has occurred and the giant footsteps that have been left behind. It must have been a very difficult time to endure, yet with these words, with this poem, you have created a wonderful tribute to your Father and he will forever be your beacon, in presence and absence.

As Jacob has written, the poem is filled with a palpable sense of loss and sadness that really shines on the page in wonderful metaphor and imagery. If loss can give birth to such delicate words then it proves that even in death there is a beauty to behold.

A wonderful piece of writing that displays all your skill and your talent. Always stay attuned to that. Beautiful work. 🌷

Your eloquent lines DIVYA remind me of the loss of my own Father at the age of sixty, now twenty eight years ago. When he went, part of me went with him. His loss immense. He was the laughter and backbone of our family and all five of his offspring as well as my mother felt the dimming of our light when he passed. I feel the grief here and the loss etched in your heart. It is so good to see a post from you.
