Petroleum Black Skies

Petroleum Black Skies

A Poem by C Peril
"

A poem about the desire to escape monotony and routine... a poem about the desire to get out of The Box. (In response to the movie Drive.)

"
Craving a drive,
underneath petroleum black
skies

I look in the rear view
mirror and the malaise
is shaken

As I am shaken

Lights accelerate,
as worlds shift around
unbound

Static shackles,
crack in the fluid
chaos

I am chaos

Alternate routes,
don't matter, turn
back and it's all matter

At the wheel,
with many lives to live
and one to lose

Petroleum black skies

I feel like this poem has a deeper meaning, a meaning I can't grasp. That's a good thing because it shows how intellectual the poem is and I love it when something cannot be explained merely by the words themselves. While reading, I could almost feel the speaker wanting to escape his mundane lifestyle, but his reality shifts out of his control. The fact that he has no control and the world is like a separate entity represents the inevitability of mediocrity. I could be wrong in interpreting this, but still, I thoroughly enjoyed this poem. Well done!
