A Poem by C Peril

This is not the emptiness of a valley - not some majestic thing,
flanked by slumbering mountains of rocky grey. No eagles
swoop ahead, cutting through a mesmerising blue - right on
cue. A visionary vacancy for your polaroid camera, no.

This is a human life, not even violently pillaged, plundered.
No solemn figures of sentimental value strewn across
the vault of heart and mind; bank robbery or other malign-
ant design.

It's the emptiness only a seed can know - yet to grow -
an is endowed with only a could; do you not catch my
drift, because I'm telling you the best I can
I'M F*****G EMPTY.

The clock ascends, climbs the sky
and I want to cry

for all the loss
for all that was.
