Captain Negro

Captain Negro

A Poem by Thunderlyrics
"

My take on 20,000 leagues under the sea.....

"

On the murky depths of the sea
Is where I lay adrift
Your vessel slowly emerged
You asked if I needed a lift
“of course” was my response
To which you said ‘On one condition,
Herein you will remain
Not leaving without permission”
What was I to do?
No other savior my eyes did touch
But in grasping at your offer
I would have to give up so much
You saw the look in my eyes
Promised me right there and then
That if I boarded your trusty ship
I’d think of land never again

Foods from the sea were brought to me
A shower, clothes and bed to nestle
Everything my minds eye could want
Was conveniently aboard this vessel
As thoughts of day and night
Grew distant in my mind
You would tell tales of life above
And the savagery of human kind
One day you did approach me
And shared your last dying wish
To build a nation of Negroes so strong
Having the same home as the fish
Life up top had been unkind
Leaving scars beyond compare
Down here, you would seem a god
The whole ocean as your lair
Everything you needed was found
In the seas vastly dark depths
The only thing you admitted lacking
Was a strong Queen for yourself

With that, you asked for my hand
To rule this world full of intrigue
Never returning to land above
Going the whole twenty thousand leagues

To which I thought to myself
I could never settle for this
No sunlight ever greeting my eyes
That be a fine kettle of fish
I looked at Captain Negro
Who never looked so forlorn
I explained to him I couldn’t do this
This is not for which I was born

thought for a moment he sneered
But maybe he was making his decision
To let go of me, the right thing to do
He could never keep me in this prison

He gave the orders to go ashore
Dropped me on a tropical isle
Coconut trees and glorious sun
Captivated my mind for a while

He said this place was isolated
Months before ships came for me though
He was quite wrong I am glad to say
But I will never forget….Captain Negro
