Are You Proud?

Are You Proud?

A Poem by Tatiana Lexia

My hair is sometimes messy,
And my clothes may have a stain.
I'll dress up and look pretty;
See? I'm not that plain.

Mom, Dad, I got captain!
I was the slow one,
But now I'm the leader!
See, I'm like your son!

I won Prom Princess
And am dating the smarted boy in school.
People even look up to me!
Are you happy that I'm cool?

Are you proud of me yet?

I passed that class
That I thought I would fail.
Are you proud that, even in science,
I do prevail?

I'm going to that college-prep program;
It's the best in the state!
I got in twice in a row;
Have I done great?

I got that full ride
And so many awards!
I'm smart, see?
Look at all these Honor's Chords!

Are you proud of me yet?

Are you proud of me yet?
Do you see what I can do?
Are you so very proud
That this is all for you?

I'm sorry I'm not perfect.
I'm sorry I can't be what you want.
I'm sorry I'm not like my siblings.
I'd be them, but I can't.

If I cut my wrists,
And make myself die,
Will you finally see
That, all my life, I really did try?

Are you proud of me yet?
