A Poem by Tom27

Despite the tolls that your body has paid with health and strength
Despite the actuality that you no longer possess the same aptitude, prowess and dexterity
That in times of past moved the heavens
Convictions of the righteous shall never erode
Take comfort that such emphatic belief shall pave a path to lead the young towards the light
Now, release your worldly tethers and depart from this mortal sphere
You, are on borrowed time.

I disconnect from the second half of all funerals. You know that point when the preacher free lances over
evil and eternity until you've had quite enough. It is no accident when they conclude that "we are all on borrowed time". That statement is more geometrical than it is philosophical; more abstraction than proverb. Usain Bolt, Mohammed Ali, Wayne Gretzky, Brett Farve……..all slowed down....And so have I.
Thanks for allowing us to an insight into the diminished world to come.....lol....dana

folks are more concerned with their outsides rather than what's on the inside. a soul is eternal. right is right and wrong is wrong - truth never changes despite man's efforts to dispute what is immutable. a tough road nevertheless. sharp and biting words and poignant food for thought you give us ... :)

Tom,
This sounds like the words of the prophets of old. I can certainly relate to the 1st and 2nd verse!
Tom . . . do you plan on writing more poems for this site?

I almost get the feel that it's about giving up in a respectful, "it's time," kind of way. "Release your worldly tethers," is a really powerful statement.
