Words I read of Aftons waters
Green braes and other lines of Burns the bard,
On a packet of cigarettes
What funny places culture throws her card!

And from there more of Burns I read,
The more of his writings to read I desired,
For I am a poet, though not as good as he
I was and am by him inspired.

Culture from a cigarette packet...
Crazy the idea some wil call,
But I say its better be crazy
Than to get no culture at all!

I like it! Culture and inspiration often pop up in the strangest places. I once wrote a song based on an empty glass of Guinness with gravity-defying head left in the bottom of the glass (I turned it upside down and not a drop fell. Here is a fine an interest was sparked by an unlikely inspiration... nicely done! I love the way you kept the moment fresh by keeping it short. Kudos to you for this one.

Very good write! There's a music group called Nickel Creek and they have a song called "Sweet Afton." I don't know the story behind the song but I bet it has been inspired by this, just as you have. I love the depth and thought that is required for this piece. The line "culture from a cigarette packet" really makes a strong point. I also enjoyed your rhyming in this. Well done.
