The Day Was September 11th

The Day Was September 11th

A Poem by Trace
"

A poem about the day cowards attacked the United States of America

"

The date was September 11th

A day no different than another

The sun blazed bright on a morning clear

The sky had never been bluer

No one knew of the horror we would see

No one expected a thing

Nobody thought that today was the day

We would see what an evil would bring

But what we believe has been challenged

What we knew of our freedoms and rights

Would be put to the test, as the planes flew in

On this day with a few fateful flights

For those who saw them coming

For those who were in the air

For those on the ground or in the towers

The whole thing just didn’t seem fair

Yet; nothing in war is fair we know

Nothing about it makes sense

But when innocent people die for no reason

Our people come to their defense

For this is the United States of America

And we will fight for the freedoms we love

Because everyone still remembers that day

We were attacked from the clear skies above

Now it’s been twenty years since that day

Still “We the people” stand strong

For we believe God watches over this Country

We will make right where we’ve been wronged

So to all those who passed on that fateful day

To all those who suffered and died

To every soul who remembers still

To all of us that cried

To all our hero’s that fight the foe

To the families who lost a loved one

We take a moment and reflect on this day

Yet the battle has only begun

For until we can say without question

That our flag has no reason to fear

We will fight for our rights and freedoms

To keep the Country we love free from terror.

How do you explain to kids that were too young to remember, how that day changed our world. The results are there, but they never knew the before to compare with the after. My brother was getting on a plane that day from Newark. Luckily it wasn't the plane, but we didn't know it until later. I will always remember that day.
Each and every day, I am grateful to live in a country that bands together. One that has people standing beside and behind you no matter how big or small the tragedy. Some of them are in uniforms, and others are just people with heart that lend a hand because it's the right thing. There will always be evil in the world, it's how we make a stand against it that matters.

What a wonderfully patriotic write this is, Trace! We all remember where we were that day...and who we were with. I remember the Florida Turnpike stopped collecting tolls that day. It was eerie. We must never forget what this country stands for and we must always fight terrorism. So well written. Lydi**

A guiding piece that lends itself to history and lesson, a teacher lays within the poet, a saddened response, well done, good read.

Such painful memories in a vivid depiction, I don't think any one of us could ever forget who've lived through that nightmare which continues to this day. I lost three dear friends to that horrific tragedy, this is a wonderful homage in their honor, thank you for such an eloquent remembrance.

Perfectly crafted, Trace. I was just thinking about that day, and what I will say to my class tomorrow when we discuss it - they are 12/13 years old - it is "ancient history" to them, yet still so vivid in our minds.
